Basic Equipment - The Headphone

This is the third post in this series, Basic Equipment. In this series, I’ll assemble a podcast rig from scratch. Last time I recommended a Computer Audio Interface, the Tascam US-122 USB, a great little device with a lot of flexibility. In the last Basic Equipment post, I mentioned monitoring your sound with the US-122, you’ll do this with a set of headphones.

Headphones need to reproduce sound accurately. The Sennheiser HD-280 Pro Closed Back Headphones (See link below) accomplish this task and do it very well. These headphones are also comfortable to wear for those long podcast recording sessions.

If you’d like to spend a little less on the headphones, rip the set off of your iPod or old Sony Walkman and buy a 3.5mm to 1/4″ stereo adapter (See link below). They’ll get the job done at a fraction of the cost. You could also pick up one of these adapters at your local Radio Shack.

Enjoy!
