Basic Equipment - The Mic Stand
This is the Sixth post in this series, Basic Equipment. In this series, I’ll assemble a podcast rig from scratch.
Last time I recommended a Compressor, and like I mentioned in that post, while not basic equipment, the addition of the compressor will take the quality of your podcast to a new level. I don’t know how many podcasts I’ve heard that pined for a compressor, when they can be had for under $100 for a good compressor.
We’re quickly wrapping up the Basic Equipment series here at The Podcast Studio. A couple of the final items that we need to get the podcast recorded is a microphone stand (so we’re not holding the microphone for extended periods of time) and software. On this entry we’ll recommend a couple stands that will keep you microphone safe and sound.
The first is a basic desktop microphone stand. It’s not adjustable, but will get the job done.

The second stand is a boom floor stand. This is the solution that I use (see link below), because of the versatility of the full size stand. It can be positioned next to the desk or table and extend to a comfortable location for recording.

Look for the last post in this series coming up. There we’ll be recommending some software to help record you podcast.
See you then!
