Get that high end sound.
I’ve been conversing by e-mail with Mark Jensen, of the PodSqod and PME, about getting my audio output to sound better for the Razing Giants Podcast. He has a great sound on his show and part of that sound is the result of the two pieces below, the Aphex 230 Vocal strip and the Aphex 204 Aural Exciter. Here are a few things that the Aphex 230 does:
- Reflected-plate amplifier tube mic preamp
- EasyRider compressor
- Logic assisted gate
- Split-band de-esser
- Aural exciter
- Parametric EQ
- Big bottom
- +4 dBu and -10 dBV outputs
- 24-bit 96 kHz A/D
- AES, SPDIF and optical outputs
- Low jitter word clock output
- Word clock input
- Cough switch (soft mute)

The Aphex 204 has the following features:
- Aural Exciter:
- Increased presence and clarity
- Restore natural brightness
- Greater perceived loudness
- Improved detail and intelligibility
Big Bottom:
- Deeper, more resonant bass
- Little or no increase in peak output
- Tighter bass articulation
- Extended low frequencies

I’m not going to pretend to know anything about these two pieces, other than the Aphex 230 Vocal processor has more processing than most rigs I’ve seen or heard. Mark adds to that the Aphex 204 as well as the Aphex 2020MkIII FM Broadcast Processor. Now I don’t have the money to purchase this level of gear right now, but it’s on the short list as soon as I can afford it.
Check out Mark’s podcast to find out more about all these great high-end products.
