USB Microphone/Headset
Simplicity in a podcast rig is something I pursue. The less gear and wires that I have to deal with the better. I recently cut out a bunch of gear out of my audio chain when I switched over to the Mac. It was too damned messy. That’s why I like the idea of one piece of gear that has the microphone, headphones and audio interface built into one unit. The Beyerdynamic MMX1 Multimeda Headset is one such unit. It’s a podcast kit in one purchase. No extra cords to get in the way. Here are the specs:
Transducer Type: Dynamic
Operating Principle: Closed
Frequency Response: 20 Hz-18K Hz
Impedance: 32 ohms
Nominal SPL: 95 dB
Nominal THD: <0.2%
Power Handling Capacity: 50 mw
Sound Coupling: Supraaural
Cable: 2.5m/ single-sided straight
Connector: USB 2.0
What does that all mean to you? Clean audio without a gaggle of wires and a lot of extra cash in your pocket. Pair this mic/headset with a program like Audacity or Kristal and you’ve got a cheap home podcast studio that will sound great.
