Leo Laporte Cancelling TWiT?
While looking for my latest episode of TWiT, I saw that I had episode #1 of This Week in Law instead my fix of Leo, Dvorak and the others. Well it looks like TWiT may be going the way of the Dodo. Leo mentioned on his blog that there will be no show this week or next while he’s going on a geek cruise. Leo also alludes that he’s contemplating the future of TWiT. I can’t say that I’m surprised. All the pundits on the show have their own projects. Leo’s been like the glue, holding what little loyalty that the group had to The Screensavers or the old TechTV. It looks like Leo wasn’t enough. I personally love TWiT, but I can understand why Leo is thinking about ending it. Shows like FLOSS Weekly, Security Now, and Inside the Net are my “not miss” programs on the TWiT Network and TWiT, while still holding my attention, was starting to feel forced.
More importantly, what does this say about podcasting as a whole? Anything?
I can say after doing a podcast for about a year, I could see “podfading” it. Nothing is meant to last forever, except fruit cake. People change, and so do their passions. Last year at the inaugural Podcast Expo, Leo talked about podcasting your passion. If your passion changes, shouldn’t your podcast change too. I’m contemplating the same thing right now. The Razing Giants podcast has been languishing while I focus on The Fat Guy Radio show and the podast here on The Podast Studio. I’m thinking about changing the iTunes category and doing something different.
