the mrbrown show: Podcast Studio
I have been meaning to scour the net and find pictures of different podcast studios. This one came up on the old Google Alert so I thought I’d share. I haven’t heard the podcast, but judging from the podcast rig, there’s no reason it shouldn’t sound fantastic.

From left: KRK RP5 studio monitors, Audio Technica AT-897 Shotgun condenser microphone, Yamaha MG12/4 Mixer, Audio-Technica AT2020 condenser microphone with Stedman Proscreen 101 pop filter, M-Audio Nova studio condenser microphone with Stedman Proscreen 101 pop filter and Samson stand, Sennheiser HD 280 Pro studio monitor headphones, M-Audio Mobilepre USB (USB Bus-Powered Preamp and Audio Interface), M-Audio DMP3 (Dual Microphone/Instrument Preamp), Apple iMac G5 iSight 17-inch (with 1.5gb of memory), and Shure SM-58 dynamic microphone.

Glad you like the gear! We use it for our shows on http://www.mrbrownshow.com and http://www.seewhatshow.com!
We have since moved into a proper studio, and built it with sound-proofing and lined with Auralex accoustic foam. Most of the gear you see above is still being used, except maybe the M-Audio Mobilepre and the M-Audio DMP3.
I will post a proper photo of v7 of our rig when I can, but you can see the recording studio and control room here:

We now use 4 mics (2 Audio-Technica AT2020 condenser microphones, 1 M-Audio Nova studio condenser microphone, 1 AKG C3000S), all with Stedman Proscreen 101 pop filters and Audio-Technica ATH-M30 headphones. The AKG C3000S is a very good mic for the money and it’s our best VO mic now.
The 4 headphones goes through a 4-port Rolls HA43 headphone amp.
The mics are connected to a snake and goes through a pair of dbx® 166XL Compressor/Limiter/Gate processors, then patched to the Yamaha MG12/4 Mixer.
Audio Technica AT-897 Shotgun condenser microphone is now for video shoots. It joins a pair of wireless lapel mic systems (Sennheiser ew 112-p G2s) for video work.
Recording is done through a Microtrack compact-flash recorder from M-Audio now, and rarely through a Mac (though we do have a Behringer FireWire Audio FCA202 in case we need to record direct to Mac). Garageband can hang in the middle of a recording and screw up a good take. So we went solid-state.
We are eyeing the Tascam HD-P2 next, heh. The monitoring is done via the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro studio monitor headphones. The Shure SM-58 dynamic microphone (the SM-58 is now a Talkback mic for the control room.
Editing is done on a 20-inch Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 2GB ram and a white Macbook (Intel Core Duo). The editing Mac is hooked up to KRK RP5 studio monitors and Behringer Xenyx 1002FX mixer. The Apple iMac G5 iSight 17-inch is now used for writing scripts.
I’ll post up detailed photos soon! Thanks for dropping by!
