If you’re subscribed to the show or read the blog, then you’ll be interested in this. PodCamp Socal will be happening on September 27, 2007. What is it? I’ve never been to one, but the official PodCamp site describes it s so:

PodCamp is a FREE UN-CONFERENCE for people who create, enjoy or are interested in learning more about blogs, vlogs, audio podcasts, web video, content networks, new and social media. Show up, meet people, make connections it’s that simple!

The Orange County Podcasters and LA Podcasters are sponsoring the event to be held the day before the Podcast & New Media Expo in Ontario, CA. The event is FREE to one and all either interested in learning about podcasting or wanting to teach about podcasting. The term podcast in this regard could be either audio or video. Check out the website http://www.podcampsocal.org for more information on the event and to see who is registered and what topics are being proposed.

The promo is from Andy Bilodeau from Andycast.net

I’d like to use my laptop as my studio…I have Sony SoundForge…I have a Shure SM58 mic. I am thinking about a xenyx502 mixer plugged to a UCA200 . Would this mixer give me phantom power to my mic…or do i even need phantom power. Also, would Skype out work for me with this up? Any help would be appreciated!!!
Thanks,
Ed

Hey Ed,

The microphone would be fine, but limited, to use with the xenyx502. It does not have phantom power, so if in the future you’d like to move up to a condenser microphone, you’d need either a pre-amp that supplied phantom power or buy another mixer. The next step up in the Behringer line, the 802 model has the phantom power for just a few dollars more. Also, the 502 mixer does not have a monitor/fx channel, so using it with Skype in what’s called a mix-minus wouldn’t work out. The model 802 Behringer also has that as a feature so you can work with Skype or other phone interface equipment. The UCA should work with Soundforge and the mixer to get the sound in the laptop.

Good luck, let me know if you have any more questions. I’m glad to help.

Thanks,
Russ

Thanks Russ…. Sounds like I should have ordered the Behringer rather than the Xenyx…oh well…
BTW, I like your site…there’s a lot of valuable stuff here!

Behringer, company name, Xenyx, line of mixers. Everything you orderd will wok together great. Let me know when you get it, I’d love to listen to the podcast.

Good Luck,
Russ
