Dealing with Comment Spam
Comment spam is a huge problem. Witness the graphic below. For every real comment you receive on your blog, you’re going to receive 100 or more spam comments. The one saving grace in this area is Akismet.
An Akismet plugin comes with WordPress and takes out all but the most clever spam comment. If you are a WordPress.com user, just enable the Akismet plugin and you’re done. If you run your own WordPress blog, head on over to WordPress.com and sign up for their service. You don’t need to ever actually use it. Copy the WordPress API Key into the field in the Akismet Configuration. Save the changes and you’re protected.
