Mystery of Mix Minus

Using Skype or a digital hybrid to make phone calls and record them with your podcast rig is at the same time easy, as far as equipment and cables needed, and difficult, setting up all the aux send and channels and panning and gain and trim and all the other things that come along with setting up your studio to record remote audio.

Mix Minus Setup

Paul Figgiani of Gigavox Media and the Podcast Academy has answered this question better than I ever could in a forum post over at the Podcast Academy Forum. The image above is a smaller version of the one in the post. The post is specifically using a Telos One digital hybrid in his post, but the same information can be used with a computer running Skype or another type hybrid such as a JK Audio Broadcast Host.

Recording remote audio is not that hard and once you do it, you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about.

Peace,
Russ

UPDATE: I posted a day too early on this topic. I just came across a demonstration of a Skype recording with Doug Kaye and Paul Figgiani.
