Podcast of the Week: Quarter Share

Quarter Share CoverI love a good audio book. I’m subscribed, thanks to Leo Laporte, to Audible.com and I’ve already “read” more books in the last 3 months than I did in all of the rest of 2007. While the plan I’m on at Audible allows me one book a month, there is a free alternative to get books in audio form and that’s Podiobooks.com. Serialized audiobooks delivered via custom RSS feeds. It’s a great service.

Which leads me to the podcast of the week, Quarter Share, by Nathan Lowell . Scott Sigler mentioned Quarter Share either in his podcast as a promo, or on his blog, but the name stuck in my head. So when I was looking for a new podiobook to consume, I jumped on this one and have not been disappointed. Here’s the description form the PodioBooks web site.

The 1st Trader’s Tale from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper…

When Ishmael Wang is orphaned by a flitter crash, he must make some hard decisions about how to survive in a Company-owned universe. With limited time and fewer options, he lands a job as the newest hand on the Solar Clipper Lois McKendrick and learns there’s more to life than making coffee. Join Ish, Pip, Big Bad Bev, and the rest of the Lois McKendrick’s crew as they sail the galaxy in search of profitable trade.

I’m just into episode number 5 and it really has me hooked. It appeals to the Trekkie in me and if I had to pick which Star Trek series that it reminded me of, it would have to be Deep Space Nine. Definitely futuristic, but so familiar in ways.  I’m excited to see where it’s going.

ApprovedYou can subscribe to Quarter Share at PodioBooks.com or add this feed to your aggregator.

If you like Quarter Share, you can follow the adventures of Ishmael Wang in the follow up books, Half Share and Full Share. If you finish all three of the those books and still want more from Nathan Lowell, he has another book in the same universe called South Coast.

Happy “reading”.

Thanks, Russ! I love hearing people talking about the books!!

And having people say NICE things is even better. So double thanks.

I’d encourage all your readers to grab a podiobooks account and subscribe with the customized feed. It allows you to set the download cycle to what ever period you want from daily to monthly.

When I wrote this post yesterday I was on Episode #5, late afternoon or so. Since then I’ve completed Quarter Share and I’m currently downloading Half Share. I’ll give it maybe until the end of the weekend.
