Shelly’s Podcast Studio
Check out the podcast rig over at Shelly’s Podcast. Shell Brisbin is the host of Shelly’s Podcast and she is also the Editor of Blogger & Podcaster Magazine.
Shelly’s podcast rig is comprised of some high end pieces combined with some low end mixed in as well. Let’s start at the top with the mic.
Shelly is using the Heil PR40 on a standard desktop mic stand. Looks like she’s also using a standard foam wind sock on the microphone. Headphones are plugged into a Marantz PMD 660, flash based recorder, that is used for recording. The mic is plugged into a Behringer UB802, which she calls the “podcaster special”. My opinion, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. There’s a reason that these mixers are so popular with podcasters. They’re cheap and they work. She also has a Behringer compressor, which she says she’s not using. Shelly also mentions that is doing the compression in post production. It looks as if she also has an iPod Nano plugged into the mixer. Could be used for playing music or other audio into the podcast at the appropriate time.
Send me a picture of your podcast studio and what’s in it and I’ll post it to the blog for all to see.

Hey Russ, thanks for the mention. You’ve got all the specs and configuration right. In addition, the PR40 does have a Heil shockmount attached. I use the iPod for music, bumpers, and feedback calls. I pre-process the calls into a single file before recording, because the iPod doesn’t like 8-bit K7 WAV files.
