Podcast Generator

The Podcast Generator just entered my radar this last week. It’s a set of scripts that will create your podcast from the beginning or from a set of existing audio and video files.

To check out the functionality of Podcast Generator I downloaded the latest version on the web site, 1.0 Beta 4. I uploaded the scripts to the archive site for the Razing Giants podcast. Installation went very smoothly. The software examined the Media directory and created the Feed. The episodes in the feed were slightly out of order. I subscribed to the podcast feed in iTunes and was able to download the shows. From the home page I was unable to download the shows, however I was able to listen to the shows with the included Flash MP3 player. The player looks similar, if not exactly like, the one included with Podpress.

Is Podcast Generator a viable platform to create your podcast. I’d have to say a definite, Yes. While not visually stunning, it does create a very blog like interface that most listeners will understand. There is a portion of the sidebar available for your own use. I embedded the Podcast Pickle flash player to add another way for the listener to get access to the podcasts.

Podcast Generator had it’s flaws. The software is still beta and taking a look at the support requests you’ll see what those flaws are. However, most of the problems that were mentioned were from users trying to create a podcast from existing files. For a new podcast, you probably won’t have any of these problems.

Finally, here’s a list of the features direct from the website:
