Another Mobile Podcast Studio Solution
One of the comments on the blog last week asked about a mobile podcast setup. I’ve had a couple recommendations in the past but another product has been out for a while and I haven’t mentioned. It’s the H4 from Zoom.
Check out this description:
The H4 is a mobile stereo recorder, a 4-track recorder, and a USB audio interface–all in a rugged palm-sized unit! Built-in small diaphragm condenser mics fixed in an X-Y pattern for perfect stereo recording. Two mic/instrument combo XLR-1/4″ inputs with phantom power for using other mics or plugging in guitars. Headphone and line outputs. Built-in compression, limiting, mic modeling, and Zoom G2-derived amp modeling. Records up to 24-bit, 96kHz stereo PCM or 320kbps stereo MP3 onto Secure Digital cards; 128MB card included. In 4-track mode, it records 2 tracks simultaneously at 16-bit, 44.1kHz. As a USB audio interface, it’s ready to work with your Mac or PC, and it includes Cubase LE recording software. It also functions as a USB mass storage device for easy file transfer. Four hours of recording on 2 AA batteries. Includes AC adapter, windscreen, USB cable, and tripod adapter.
It’s a sweet little device that you can take on the road and also use as part of your primary recording setup. It’s not cheap, but considering the alternatives, it’s a great deal. Pair this recorder with a great interview microphone and you’ll have top notch mobile podcast studio ready for road and any expos you might attend.
